What is an Air Curtain and how does it work?
An Air Curtain is a sophisticated system that acts like a 'door made of air' to minimize the exchange of air between the inside and outside of buildings. Air Curtains create an invisible, laminar air flow that effectively prevents cold or hot outside air from entering the interior and at the same time ensures that the conditioned indoor air does not escape to the outside. Thanks to this function, the Air Curtain makes a significant contribution to saving energy and creates a pleasant indoor climate.

Air Curtain function: How does the system work?
The function of an Air Curtain is based on a uniform and targeted air flow that exits above the door opening. As soon as the door opens, powerful, fast-running fans are activated, which immediately create the air curtain. The patented CONVERGO® pressure chamber nozzle technology developed by Teddington ensures that the airflow is directed precisely to the door area, creating an effective barrier. This air barrier keeps the temperature difference between inside and outside constant while preventing dust, dirt and insects from entering.
In winter, the Air Curtain blocks the ingress of cold outside air and keeps the heat inside the room. In summer, it prevents the ingress of hot air and thus reduces the load on the air conditioning system. Thanks to these properties, the Air Curtain significantly reduces energy consumption and helps to improve the energy efficiency of your building.
Areas of application and advantages
In addition to use in entrance areas of shops, offices and public buildings, Air Curtain systems are also used in specialised areas such as freezer rooms. There, for example, Air Curtains also prevent the formation of mist and thus reduce the risk of accidents caused by frost.
Teddington also offers special Air Curtain systems for industrial applications. These have a greater air discharge range and can effectively shield even large door openings. Air Curtains can even be used to prevent odour emissions, e.g. in waste facilities.

Flexibility and adaptability
Teddington Air Curtain systems are available in various sizes and designs to meet different requirements. Whether as free-standing units in upright or suspended versions or as almost invisibly integrated solutions - our Air Curtain units adapt perfectly to your needs.
What are the benefits of an Air Curtain system?
A Teddington Air Curtain is more than just a technical solution – it is the invisible protective shield for your entrance. But how well does it improve the climate in your property? See for yourself how effectively an Air Curtain keeps the cold outside air out, retains the heat inside and prevents draughts. Noticeably improved indoor climate and more comfort for your customers and employees.
Without Air Curtain

In every heavily frequented building, the air masses are equalised. What was previously heated at great expense escapes from doors and gates. The task of an Air Curtain system is to counteract the unpleasant influx of cold air in the entrance area with a counterflow.

The thermal image of a shop entrance area clearly shows the incidence of cold air from outside in the situation without an Air Curtain.
With Air Curtain system

Air volume, speed, temperature and momentum must correspond to the force of the cold air incidence in order to achieve optimum benefit and comfort. Thanks to the Teddington CONVERGO® nozzle, the air discharge angle can be optimally adapted to the local conditions.

The effective shielding against unwanted air exchange is clearly recognisable in the thermal image taken with the Air Curtain.
Why you benefit from Air Curtain systems

Tested quality
Our company specifies the performance data and noise levels of its door air curtains in accordance with the ISO 27327 standard. Our products are regularly tested for efficiency and effectiveness by the Institut für Luft- und Kältetechnik Dresden. These measurements guarantee standardized performance data and underline the high quality and reliability of our products.

Types of air curtain installation
Teddington air curtain systems can be installed in two variants: IDW (internally rotating air roll) and ADW (external rotating air roll). Depending on the positive or negative pressure in the building, the respective installation type ensures maximum shielding against unwanted ingress of outside air. There are also different device variants for installation. This allows the air curtain system to be optimally adapted to the respective building situation.
